If you're looking for a peaceful and luxurious escape in central north island New Zealand, I can recommend staying at the homestead on Rotomate. The homestead sits on a rise over views of the Mangaotaki valley, with a beautiful garden.
From the moment you arrive through the fern lined portal, you'll be struck by the beauty of the farm and the warmth of your hosts. Mat and Kim are welcoming, making sure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. They are also happy to share their knowledge of the PioPio area, providing recommendations for local activities, including the Hobbit tour around the corner.
The house itself is nothing short of spectacular. It's spacious and well-appointed, with plenty of room for groups up to a dozen or so. The living areas are bright and airy, with large windows that offer sweeping views of the limestone countryside. The  5 bedrooms are comfortable, with all bedding and all the amenities needed.
One of the highlights of staying at Rotomate is the opportunity to explore the farm. You could have a walk around the property, have a game of tennis on the court,  or just admire the rolling hills, grazing cows, and lush ferny greenery. Limestone outcrops protrude here and there. Just down the road is the Mangaotaki river, perfect for a summer swim. There are some caves on the property for the more intrepid!
Rotomate is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. It has beautiful views, and the hosts, Mat and Kim, are kind and hospitable.  Make sure you try Mat's homemade sausages!
